Winter feed crops are looking very well and have benefited from the Moisture in January Gregor Comments Disabled Trackbacks 0 Permalink Change in weather David Molloy Monday January 27 2014 Who would ve thought that we would get 30mm of rain and snow on the mountains After a reasonably dry patch the rain is most welcome BUT we do now need it to warm up and the snow to go There is some harvest to be done and grass to grow Going back on weather records snow on Mt Hutt is not that unusual in February My last blog about underdogs winning come through last night with Nadel loosing the tennis final who went to the TAB Mangi Comments Disabled Trackbacks 0 Permalink Underdogs David Molloy Wednesday January 22 2014 In the last few weeks we have had some great sporting matchups Even when a player or team think they are at the top of their game along comes a young gun with nothing to lose a creates a news worthy result Some big names to exit the Australian Tennis open are Serena Williams Djokovic Ferrer Ivanovic Sharapova and back home here we have the Black Caps downing the Indian Cricket side As our Winter Olympians prepare for Sochi perhaps we can find an upset result It makes for good Television watching or perhaps I should put a wager on at the TAB Mangi Comments Disabled Trackbacks 0 Permalink Finally Ticked off David Molloy Wednesday January 15 2014 After living in Staveley for nearly four years in the shadow of Mt Somers it has always been on my list to climb to the top but whenever I had it planned the weather has not been suitable Yesterday I took the day off with the plan to make the climb to the top It was a glorious sunny morning with not a cloud in the sky and it looked like being the perfect day Morning view from the kitchen window I set off from Sharplin falls car park at 9 00 for my walk the aim being to get to the top by lunchtime It started as quite a steep climb through bush and then up over Staveley hill By 11 00 I d made it to the summit track junction time to take a break and a bar of chocolate to top up the energy for the climb The summit track takes you through a bit of bush then opens out to follow a valley to the top ridge not an easy climb with a lot of loose rocks and scree making it difficult to get a footing Once on the top ridge you get great views over the back towards the pinnacles and climb to the peak is not as steep By 12 30 I d made it to the summit and the 360 degree views taking in the sea Mt Cook Mt Hutt and more definitely made the hard slog worth it The Summit At last After I
