    motor and proceeded to trawl our lines from the back of the boat and started to relax Lunch time came and went but no sign of a fish apart from seeing one break water which prompted Andrew to set up his fly rod and bring with it a totally new learning experience The afternoon passed with a few snagged lines but still no sign of fish until we started to head back to our launch point I was at the helm with Andrew in charge of the lines when he shouted stop the lines snagged on a stick well after a few minutes trying to real in the stick it then became apparent it was actually a fish when it disappeared under the boat Then came the call for the net quick quick get the net or similar heated words well it all happened in a bit of a panic but we managed to net the fish and land it safely on the boat you would need to be there to experience the humour The said fish turned out to be a fine Trout weighing in a just over 2kg which Ludds promptly staked claim to but I rather see it as a team effort due to the fact I was at the helm and also helped to land it and it was the only fish of the day Thanks Andrew for a great day not many fish but unreal to have lake Coleridge to ourselves definitely entertaining and an experience not to have missed Gary Comments Disabled Trackbacks 0 Permalink Top Crops David Molloy Thursday May 28 2015 Last night David Molloy and myself attended the Ashburton District Winter feed finals presentation dinner held at the Ashburton Hotel I must say this turned out to be a great evening with a fabulous meal good company and most of all some very pleasing results Target crop Greenfeed cereal 1 Mark Hillier 2 Andrew Donaldson 3 Fergus Butterick Overall Champion 1 Bob Brown 2 Barry Daly 3 Mark Hillier 4 Martin Fleming 5 Chris Curd 6 W D Copland All the final crops were Fodder beet with only a few points seperating the crops Barry Daly was the winner of the 500 Mollog Ag voucher so I hope you spend it wisely Barry Finally really proud to have been associated with the winning crop and provided the Agronomy advice to Bob Brown this was Bobs first year at growing Fodder Beet and needless to say he will be growing a few more Ha s next year Check out some photos on the MolloyAg facebook page Well that s enough from me I m on leave and got a digger to drive Gary Comments Disabled Trackbacks 0 Permalink Agrecovery and Rural Recycling David Molloy Monday May 25 2015 Last Thursday we had a visit from participants of the Rural Waste Forum that was held in Methven The visitors came from all sectors local council regional council Dairy NZ Fonterra etc David Molloy

    comforts Thanks to Wally for organizing this I think I have finally caught up with all my tasks Mangi Comments Disabled Trackbacks 0 Permalink Marlborough Sounds here I come David Molloy Monday March 16 2015 As I sit here with my morning coffee strong and black thanks Mangi I look out to a very wet cold day not a good day to be outdoors With Hurricane Pam just nipping past our Nth Island East Coast right now we are lucky down here in the South not to have it so bad today This Friday my family and I are heading up to the Marlborough Sounds for 10days 45mins by boat through the Pelorous Sound from Havelock to Homewood Bay or Mary s Bay as sometimes referred to on the map this is a truly beautiful part of NZ with fishing swimming native bush isolation and total relaxation my Husbands Grandfather made the decision 30yrs ago to purchase a house at Homewood Bay that the family and extended family can enjoy Although he is no longer with us and I had never met him what an amazing legacy he has left we are all very mindful that we are only able to enjoy such a peaceful beautiful holiday destination because of his generosity and foresight and I look forward to getting my children back up there to enjoy the scenery and great outdoors Perhaps when I return I will blog a photo of the great big Snapper I intend to catch Becks Comments Disabled Trackbacks 0 Permalink New beginnings at MolloyAg David Molloy Friday March 13 2015 It s only taken my father 25 years to ask me to join the family business I guess that s not bad odds considering the amount of pestering I got about when I m going to come home to work A few people have asked me what I will be doing within the Company will you be driving a spray truck or will you be driving a Bateman the answer to both those questions was no I think the only thing I will be driving is the boss crazy or perhaps the other way around I have a nice small possie in with the agronomy guys Gary and Gregor I think I will nickname them Gazza and Gregsta they don t know this yet Upon nearing the end of my first two weeks I have learnt that these two really aren t fond of flys Note to self always shut the sliding door in and out of the office Gazza loves his chips or crisps to the British and they even both kindly gave me a welcome card on my first day although I was promised chocolates and a bouquet of flowers I am still waiting for those The last five years I have spent working in two different law offices in Ashburton and I must admit the change from Law to Agriculture could be interesting So far the most challenging part of my

    smuts blowing across roads to contend with For the farmer burning is a great cost effective way of clearing crop residue to give a clean start for following crops So what will this mean and what are the impacts There could be quite a few More straw baled more straw chopped increased use of direct drills to cope with trash more ploughing cultivations increased weed pest in following crops increased costs The list could go on but what it does mean is farmers will have to change their normal practice to the best alternative to suit their situation You might say well that s nothing new we do that all the time I guess that farming every day seems to bring a new challenge Gary Comments Disabled Trackbacks 0 Permalink Spiders again David Molloy Tuesday January 27 2015 Further to Gary s post the other week sharing his tremendously scarey White Tailed Spider Attack I must say I had a similar experience last week Being a spider phobic type of person already my heart almost stoppped completely when a large White Tailed Spider revealed itself from beside my stovetop while I was cooking dinner trying not to cause a fuss and scare the kids I managed to hold it together just enough to scrape it down onto the floor and then put it out of its misery with my shoe Now this whole experience could have been just as traumatic as Gary s had I not seen it in time Then to my disbelief that night I received a phone call from the local Spider Spray business offering their services in our area should I be interested I immediately told them their timing was uncanny Lets hope this week brings a little bit of rain Becks Comments Disabled Trackbacks 0 Permalink South Island Field Days David Molloy Friday January 23 2015 When you sit down and think about it the MolloyAg brand has a lot to offer Farmers That s what we think any way So we thought it was time we had a stand at the South Island Field Days This is held in Kirwee on March the 25th to the 27th 2015 So if you are an existing client or you are interested in the Agronomy Service Crop Spraying and Chemical supply buying Bateman Sprayers and Nozzles Liquid Nitrogen Manufacture and Application or all of the above then please come and see us for a chat Look forward to seeing in you there Gregor Comments 0 Trackbacks 0 Permalink Model T Sprayer David Molloy Tuesday January 20 2015 Last Friday I attended the funeral of a local stalwart the late Ivan Lyttle During the eulogy it was mentioned that in the 1950 s Ivan started his contracting days in a Model T Ford with a home made spray outfit Now I would bet that there wasn t many of the mod cons in the 50 s On Saturday I jumped back in the sprayer seat and knocked off

    for all the other S Back off New Zealand or you ll become too much like the UK And remember it can be inappropriate to make assumptions Gary Comments Disabled Trackbacks 0 Permalink FAR Crops Expo 2014 David Molloy Friday December 05 2014 On Wednesday I went to the FAR Crops Expo 2014 at Chertsey The event was well attended by farmers and agronomists from Mid Canterbury and around New Zealand The day is well organised with half hour talks at stations around the Chertsey site Topics included increasing yield from cereals to irrigator stabilisation to herbicide resistence to the role of break crops in cropping rotations We heard from speakers giving their experiences from around the World including the USA and Britain It was a good day to pick up information and talk to like minded people to help make informed decisions while out in the field Gregor Comments 0 Trackbacks 0 Permalink Canterbury Grasslands David Molloy Monday December 01 2014 On Friday night Pete and myself along with our wives where invited along to Canterbury Grasslands xmas party For those unfamiliar with the Canterbury Grasslands setup this is a corporate farm with a lot of shareholders 9 dairy units at Hororata milking around 5000 cows plus a Dairy unit in Mid West USA The xmas party was all laid out with food beverages and music catering for people from all areas CEO Shareholders sharemilkers to Dairy staff and contractors What was interesting from my viewpoint with the reduced payout was how positive everyone was The Grasslands management rewarded excellence among the dairy units Not only in financial output but in pride and appearance Staff are definitely looking forward not what could of been Hats off to all at Canterbury Grasslands for creating a great team environment Mangi Comments Disabled Trackbacks 0 Permalink Lack of Use David Molloy Friday November 28 2014 Hmmm from the title you might wonder what I m going to go on about Well last weekend I pulled off the dust cover and brushed the cobwebs off my prized motorbike ready for its inaugural trip to Ashburton to get a warrant So togged in leathers crash helmet on I set off on my short trip Now things seemed to be flashing past quite fast I thought maybe I m just out of touch with riding I check the speedo and I m only doing 90 not even up to 100 yet I take a second look and realise the electronic dash has changed over to mph it has the ability to read both kmh mph So settings adjusted I throttle back to a more mundane 100 kmh or thereabouts and having not been on the bike since last Autumn I d really forgotten how much I enjoy the buzz I arrive at the VTNZ to find a queue as expected on a Saturday morning in front of me was a chap with an old VW combi Interested in it I start to chat with him
