  • Reading - is Google making us stupid? | Realising Human Potential
Victoria s School of Information Management and Master s student Channa Herath explored on and offline reading behaviour In general online reading was found to have a negative impact on people s cognition Concentration comprehension absorption and recall rates were all much lower Multitasking when reading online was common Skim reading and scanning was the most common online reading behaviour of respondents and as a result people were getting through more material Many respondents said they had learnt to read faster and more selectively which is positive but also said they were more likely to remember material they had read offline It was still common practice for many people to print out material they considered most important The research indicates that we still read in a linear print based fashion However the structure of much of what we are reading is inappropriate for the way in which we re receiving information now We need to learn how to read and write digitally as well as how to effectively interpret and retain information we read online More Recent News Older News News 21st Nov 2015 Are you paying way too much for your staff development 21st Nov 2015 Speed Reading in

  • Police benefit from time management principles | Realising Human Potential
or the things that are the most interesting and enjoyable And typically leave unread that BORING report or that difficult meeting So often our procrastination is labelled laziness but actually it isn t There are many reasons we put off doing what we should be doing So we fill the day with being very busy and getting a lot done but omit to do the critical things which should be done Our suggestion is that at the start of each day we list the tasks to be done The put A beside those that must be done today Now certain occupations police emergency workers managers and supervisors the work is unpredictable People in these occupations claim that they cannot prioritise their tasks as the tasks change by the minute This is a fallacy You can still list your tasks and determine which ones come first As you deal with emergencies you are still prioritising More Recent News Older News News 21st Nov 2015 Are you paying way too much for your staff development 21st Nov 2015 Speed Reading in Christchurch Events 21st Nov 2015 to 1st Feb 2017 Conflict Resolution at work and at home 21st Nov 2015 to 1st
