    wonderful sponsors Cut a Trail Events Limited is a proud supporter of the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust and each event profits are donated to this worthy charity The Taranaki Trail Running Series TTRS has been set up to cater for the rapidly increasing interest in trail running Within this context trail running is defined as running on varied terrain with sections of steep incline and decline where runners ideally need to be self sufficient and where support cannot be expected and be relied upon Trail running is a globally developing sport where competitors participate for both fun and competition Within New Zealand trail running is becoming increasingly popular often seen as an alternative to the more traditional forms of running road and track Trails are everywhere within New Zealand and frequently offer the opportunity to highlight and allow appreciation of the various beauties of nature which we are often fortunate to have on our doorstep Whether it s witnessing spectacular views crossing pristine rivers and streams or following our amazing coastlines and mountain ranges trail running allows the aesthetic of purity to be more than just a distraction from any striving pain of participation The TTRS is a three event

    00pm 2km 6 05pm 6km and 12km Please note There will be a race briefing for ALL competitor s at 5 55pm it is compulsory for all participants to be present Cost 2km 5 6km and 12km 10 From 5pm Tuesday 26th April 15 late entry fee applies for the 6km and 12km event WE HAVE EFTPOS AVAILABLE Registration All pre entered participants need to register at the event tent between 4 30pm and 5 45pm on the day Late entires Please enter at the event tent before 5 45pm Course FOR SAFETY REASONS AND NPDC RULES NO PETS OR BIKES ARE ALLOWED ON THE COURSE Equipment HEADLIGHTS ARE COMPULSORY No headlight no participation Make sure you have fully charged batteries or a spare set with you It pays to make sure the headlamp is operational before you use it Enter the NIGHT MISSION in store at the Frontrunner and go in the draw to win a LED headlamp These headlamps are so powerful and make running at night so much easier It is recommended that each participant has the following equipment to ensure their safety Suitable footwear Specific trail running shoes is the best option for grip and support but traditional running shoes are also suitable as long as they have sufficient tread remaining on the sole Visit The Frontrunner to see their comprehensive range of trail running shoes and get expert advice from their team Waterproof or wind resistant jacket A jacket that will protect you from the changeable weather conditions is useful but not compulsory and can be tied around the waist if it is not needed Food and drink All participants are required to be self sufficient there are no drink aid stations on the course We will be supplying electrolyte replacement drink at the finish

    of an air ambulance Initially the Trust utilised a helicopter that was available on a semi dedicated basis resulting in the helicopter being called away from its current task when an emergency arose However it quickly become apparent that a machine solely dedicated to rescue work was required In 1999 the decision was made to invest in a 100 dedicated air ambulance search and rescue helicopter Coming onboard as a major sponsor Taranaki Electricity Trust made this upgrade possible A hangar was constructed at Taranaki Base Hospital By 2003 a helicopter upgrade was required and the Trust shifted to an AS 355 F1 Squirrel allowing for a greater payload to be carried This was followed by the Trust purchasing a helicopter in 2007 an Agusta Westland Koala 119 CAA s enforcement of rules preventing single engine helicopters from operating in and out of hospitals in urban areas required the Trust to review its current fleet as a compromise could not be reached with CAA March 2011 saw a second hand twin engine Agusta 109 Power purchased which arrived in August 2011 after being fitted with necessary medical communication radios a DZM system and meeting NZ Certification Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust
